JEDS Consultation - your chance to comment. - [20-12-2007]
Dear Colleague
Consultation – Delivering Economic Growth in Bedfordshire and Luton
I am pleased to bring your attention to “Delivering Economic Growth”, which is the consultation draft of the revised Joint Economic Development Strategy (JEDS) of the Bedfordshire and Luton Economic Development Partnership. I would be grateful if you could let me have any comments on the draft strategy by 29 February 2008. I also link to a brief questionnaire for ease of return. At this stage, BLEDP is not looking for a formal endorsement from your organisation but feedback in terms of amendments or improvements to the draft strategy. However, co-ordinated feedback from organisations rather than individual responses is preferred.
The last JEDS was published in 2005. Much of the Partnership’s strategic work since has been around getting broad public and private sector buy-in to the headline target of the creation of 50,000 net additional jobs in the sub-region’s economy by 2021. This headline target, and a number of supporting aspirations particularly around growth in the tourism sector, has been accepted and used by BLEDP partners in the development of local area agreements, in major funding applications and most publicly in the appeal to gain planning permission in Mid Bedfordshire by Center Parcs.
To provide context and credibility to the jobs target, the Partnership has worked hard to develop a common evidence base and improve understanding of economic development and regeneration issues amongst BLEDP’s partners.
If you have colleagues who might be interested in this consultation, please download additional copies from this website (see File Library - Consultations).
We are also planning to hold a stakeholder workshop to further develop the action plan for the JEDS on the 18th March 2008. If you would like to participate in this event, please let us know.
Yours faithfully
Chris Barnes Chief Executive Officer
