Launch of Shuttleworthbusiness by Local MP

Shuttleworth College welcomed Alistair Burt MP along with many local business leaders and entrepreneurs at the launch of its new Enterprise Centre on 23rd March. Those attending enjoyed a programme of seminars including ‘Why most Websites don’t Work’, ‘The Spirit of the Entrepreneur’ and ‘The Art of Networking’ all of which were very well subscribed. After the official launch ceremony was performed by Alistair Burt, Janette Flaherty, the Entrepreneur of the Year 2005, London Business Awards, delivered the keynote speech. She described her business career from rags to riches through a management buyout.

Visitors also had the opportunity to look around the Business Market Place Exhibition and were able to watch the ‘Dragons Den’ competition in the afternoon, where three finalists competed for cash prizes of £1000, £600 and £250. From eight selected applications three likely successful business opportunities were identified, who all received help in developing a business plan. In the Dragons Den the finalists presented their business proposals and they will all receive business support and advice in addition to their financial reward to help ensure the success of their business.

Shuttleworthbusiness is a brand new facility within the Shuttleworth mansion where new business ventures can be nurtured and supported with ‘hot desk’ facilities and on site business advice. It also provides conference facilities, training and seminar rooms with the latest technology to suit corporate business events combining a stress free environment with state of the art facilities. The venture is a joint collaboration between Beds County Council, EEDA and the Shuttleworth Trust to provide focussed support for the growing Bedfordshire business community.
