Investing in Communities

What is Investing in Communities? Investing in Communities (IiC) was launched in 2003 by the East of England Development Agency. It is a programme aimed at changing public sector responses to tackling inequality, exclusion and social deprivation, benefiting disadvantaged communities in the region over a 10 year period.
IiC will be founded on strategic, needs-based, long-term planning at a regional and sub-regional level. This will be achieved through encouraging partnerships to better co-ordinate the public sector funding available to tackle disadvantage and exclusion across the region, leading to long-term community regeneration.
The programme is delivered through a joined-up approach to community regeneration. BLEDP and other sub-regional economic partnerships (SREPs) are co-ordinating this new approach within their areas by leading the development of IiC Partnerships. The partnerships are made up of decision makers from public, private and voluntary and community sectors.
The Business Case A Business Plan was submitted to EEDA with four intervention areas identified from the evidence base. These were
- Healthy Steps to Employment
- Adult Skills
- NEET
- Enterprise
For further information on each of these areas please contact the IiC team.
Evidence Base Bedfordshire County Council on behalf of the IiC Partnership engaged Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion to bring together all appropriate statistical data and current research to support the IiC team in developing the Investing in Communities long-term Strategy and Business Plan. You can download the OCSI report Summary or map-free version in our file library. For a copy of the full report please contact the IiC team. The IiC Partnership commisioned a strategic mapping report from Roger Tym and Partners in conjunction with Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion (OCSI). As a strategic report this provides a "route map" of where project level information can be collected. Based around the five interventions areas outlined in the IiC Business Plan it not only provides contact information for groups involved in delivery, but provides a strong rationale for progression in these areas. You can download a copy of the final report in our file library. Communication The IiC Partnership is committed to close working with stakeholders and welcome input through attendance at stakeholder events and through open discussion. A newsletter is distributed at least once a quarter, but may be more frequent as appropriate. This newsletter is sent out electronically and is available for upload from this website. If you do not receive an electronic copy and wish to do so, please contact the IiC team Download IiC Newsletter (not available yet)
